*Most my experience was from childhood days (at school mostly or at occasionally grandparents {dairy originating from europe pre-america; one of those things either you got it in your blood or you dont} ranch/farm helping aka free help for the day now & then) at relatives (now deceased) ranch & farming still considered as a "dairy law first in place" ranch in NorCal area which was much like many small family farming businesses now considered hobby farm estates or specialty crop farms which are in series dangered of non existance worldwide.  In some regions of the world  small estate farms are for prestige and a great way of life not just the ownership of property but the comdraderie of farming however small your acreage.  It also in many countries the foremost way to long term solid financial investment wealth. Small animals care is not large animal care and food production another venue, then the large scale corporate food production at ground level to processing to grocery.
