PETLANE has ingredients for recipe's of all sorts, it's what you chose to make of it,

Found this recipe from a friend, Organic weed killer:

1 Gallon of  5% or greater strentgh white vinager

2 cups  epson salt

1 Tablespoon dish soap

Mix thoroughly and spray on weeds for effective mild weed control.  Spray prior to damp weather if possible to avoid dilution of mixture.  Some tougher weeds may require a more -see your local garden center.

Got skunk smell?  I found this recipe in Dog Fancy Magazine.  This is also the same recipe that Petkeeping with marc Marrone recommends. There's also other recipe's that use tomato juice, maybe I can find one.  Seems I can never find any recipe when needed.

1 Quart of 3 percent hydogen peroxide

1/4 cup baking soda

1 teaspoon liquid castle soap (available at most health food stores) or gentle dish soap

Mix all ingredients in a medium size bucket because it will fizz up.  Soak your dogs fur, being VERY careful not to get the solution in their eyes, nose, ears or mouth - face/head area!  These ingredients are natural, but have acidic properties and can cause irritation.  Gently rub/knead solution into the fur, covering every part of your dog.  Soak well, longer for long haired pets.  Use a sponge to soak around face and head area, being VERY careful not to get into nose, ears, eyes mouth.  Rinse thoroughly with clean water and then dry.  This particular recipe changes the chemical properties of the skunk spray to break it down, so odor is eleminated not covered up.

****Do not store or save left over solution; as an acidic chemical reaction could cause a possible explosion****  Dispose of properly.

Veggiebites from The Doggy Bonebook, for large dogs

3 1/2 cups whole wheat flour     1/8 cup diced red bell peppers (optional)

1 1/4 cup water                          1 clove minced garlic*

1/2  cup cornmeal                       1/2 cup shredded carrots

1/2  cup diced celery                 1/2 cup unsalted sunflower seeds

3 tablespoons corn oil

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Mix water and oil.  Add the flour, cornmeal, vegetables, garlic and sunflower seeds.  Knead dough for 2-3 minutes and roll to 1/4 inch thick.  Cut dough into bone shapes (use 4 inch cookie cutter provided) and place on ungreased cookie sheet.  Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.  Makes 2 1/2 dozen.      *1 teaspoon of garlic powder may be substituted for minced garlic.

A 4 inch long bone comes with the cookbook, you could substitute any cookie cutter, but if smaller cookie cutter is used, reduce cooking time accordingly.  This is a very healthy choice recipe.  A good choice if watching a waistline.  Break cookie in smaller portions for more bites and for smaller dogs if the 4 inch cookie cutter is used.  Keep in air tight container, freeze extras, or share with a furry canine friend.

You can purchase the Doggy Bone cookbook for small and large dogs at Petlane as well as cookbooks for cats and birds - see home page for details

Beefy Doggie Cookies from my local newspaper

Famous Quotes:

"The man who kills animals today is the man who kills the people who get in his way tomorrow" by Dr. Diane Fossey

"He who is cruel to animals becomes hard also in his dealings with men. We can judge the heart of a man by his treatment of animals"  by Immanuel Kant

"The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated"  by Mahatma Ghandi

Brutus, a military k9 at McChord.  Brutus is the first k9 recipient of the congressional medal of honor from his tour of military duty in Iraq in 2009. There is a computer mailed forwarded message that went around Brutus's story. It is where I obtained this, unfortunately the author was not named, but typical modest military style.  Thank you k9's every where!!  From my experience, animals do respond and understand to the phonetics of human voice (like music) and their moods.  I have needed to spell simple words when speaking in front of more than one past k9 of mine on a daily basis.

Pets Ten Commandments:

1.  My life is likely to last 10 to 15 years.  Any separation from you is likely to be painful.

2.  Give me time to understand what you want of me.

3.  Place your trust in me.  It is crucial for my well-being.

4.  Don't be angry with me for long and don't lock me up as punishment.  You have your work, your friends, your entertainment, but I only have you.

5.  Talk to me.  Even if I don't understand your words.  I do understand your voice when speaking to me.

6.  Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget it.

7.  Before you hit me, before you you strike me, remember I could hurt you, and yet I choose not to bite you.

8.  Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative ask yourself if somethings might be bothering me.  Perhaps I'm not getting the right food, I have been in the sun too long, or my heart might be getting old or weak.

9.  Please take care of me when I grow old.  You too, will grow old.

10.  On the difficult journey, go with me please.  Never say you can't watch.  Don't make me face this alone.  Everything is easier for me if you are there, because I love you so..........by author unknown

Tidbits from personal experience only

Does your petkid dog enjoy digging?

For outside petkidz try putting in a sandbox, using a child's kiddie pool or something similiar could be used, go as large as a very small above ground human pool.  For inside petkidz a beanbag chair in a durable material with an inside liner works great, as you may need to mend or wash the cover at times.  I suggest having the material in a pattern and texture that is completely UNLIKE any of your other furniture.  Petkidz/dogs see in black and white, understand texture and smell is essential, so simplicity is best- think very young child.  You might even try using an upholsterer and having a durable mixed pattern and solid combination - as retail stores can be so limiting in choice.  Digging is second nature for some breed types and such fun for them that they might dig till they are exhausted at times.  Not to replace a walk or time with their people, but extra fun in between while your at work.  When your petkid is taught where it can dig it will usually leave your flowerbeds and furniture alone.  You might want to supervise until you can trust your petkid and/or the digging spot is in a safe and contained area where no harm can be done to other undesireable items.

I have also found that a chewy rawhide or knarly bone is like reading a book and/or can be very relaxing for some petkid dogs, not to mention it aides in teeth cleaning and fresher breath.  If you have more than one petkid dog, watch for a bit of natural territorial squabbling at times over the chewy bones.

What is dog spelled backwards? That is why we think dogs have been named mankinds best friend for eons. Of course since the increasing intelligence of many other animals, many pets now fall into this category too. I know our home is not happy or complete without a pet.
